Quickset recall!!!

Medtronic is recalling all quickset insulin infusion sets that start with LOT #8!!!A quick peek inside our supply closet reveals 13 of our 14 boxes ARE in fact lot 8!!! Medtronic states "We recently identified that approximately 2% of "Lot 8" Quick-set infusion sets used with MiniMed Paradigm insulin pumps may not work properly. Some of these infusion sets do not allow the insulin pump to vent. This can potentially cause too much or too little insulin to be delivered and may lead to serious injury or death."

YIKES. Wholy Moly! CRAZY! THIS IS WHY WE NEED A CURE! Can you say unexplained highs are now explained? Maybe, maybe not. Regardless of what the reason is for Maddison's wonky numbers....I wonder if that means I'll have to change all the recent changes I've made to Maddison's insulin dosing as we begin to use new un-recalled sets again? Medtronic also states they will ship one replacement box every 3 weeks due to the shortage of Quicksets they are now experiencing as a result of the recall. I'm surely not sending back ALL my boxes at once then!

Great just when I finally get enough money to get Pump supplies this happens. Wonder what they will say when I call. Maybe they will let me try another infusion set.

Have you been recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes?

A nationwide clinical research study is being conducted to find out whether an investigational agent can help preserve your body’s ability to make insulin.

You may qualify if you:

• Are 18 to 35 years of age
• Have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes within the last ten weeks

If you qualify and choose to participate, you will receive an initial consultation, study-related examinations, and investigational agent at no cost to you. Compensation for time and travel will be provided.

To learn more about the DEFEND research study, please visit our website at: http://www.defendagainstdiabetes.com/yh5

Nothing like scaring the witts out of a person! This recall stuff drives me nuts!!! WHERE IS QUALITY ASSURANCE? Good grief, as though diabetes is not enough. Sending prayers your way.

Well, I guess it is true, one never knows who is reading your blog. Investigative agent...what is it? Side affects?? Long term affects?? Are you getting the I. A., or the placebo? Never find out until the study is done. How many years is that? Sorry, I am a cynical nurse. I am not against research...just the manner in which it is conducted. The fine print is never disclosed until years later. Come on now, we live in the day of full product information; this should mean research trials too. But then, this information would compromise the study. What a choice...blasted disease. Money for medical should be your last worry. Does diabetes fall under the definition of catastrophic illness under your medical plan?
